Worldwide Motorcycle Awareness Day

Saturday, May 23, 2010 was Worldwide Motorcycle Awareness Day. Rides were organized all around the world to remind drivers that motorcycles are amongst us, so please be aware and stay alert.

I participated in the Phoenix, Arizona ride where approximately 350 bikes and riders met at Toby Keith's I LOVE THIS BAR AND GRILL in Mesa, AZ then departed for a 120 mile ride on the freeways of the Phoenix area. I was hoping Toby would be riding with us, but he was a no-show. = (

This is a stature at the Bass Pro Shop near Toby's place.

Lots of beautiful bikes...

Florescent colored T-Shirts were sold, and worn by many of the riders.

This ride was much more colorful than than most, where most riders are usually dressed all in black.

A few local news crews came out and interviewed Paul, whose wife was killed in the horrible crash two months ago where four riders were killed, and John, who is the founder of the local Meetup riding group PMRG (Phoenix Motorcycle Riders Group).

The ride ended at Greaswood Flats, a popular restaurant out in the Cave Creek area. I rode to Greasewood with the group, but I didn't stay.

We saw that on the news and looked for you. Glad you had such a gorgeous day for the event. Motorcycle awareness is critically important. None of us can forget the horrifying images of that terrible crash in March. Ride safely!

Do you know if the fire dept. captain injured that day is still in the hospital?

Barb, sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you concerning Ernie, the Fire Capt. The latest is, he's still in the hosptal but is expected to go home in about two weeks, and will continue physical therapy.

Wow! That poor man. I can't imagine being in the hospital that long and what he's going through. Glad to hear he is healing.
